In the womb
of the mother,
the child's mouth
is closed
and
its navel is open.

It learns
all the teachings
and can see
the whole world.

As it leaves the womb,
the closed organ opens
and the open one
closes.

An angel slaps
the child's mouth.
It forgets everything,
but can regain wisdom
in its lifetime.

The Talmud

As the Queen
supported herself,
Buddha came forth,
born full of wisdom,
as if his mind
had been purified
by aeons of contemplation.

He took seven footsteps
and said,
"I am born for supreme knowledge,
for the world's welfare.

This is my last birth!"

Then, like other babies,
he was unable to speak
or walk
until the normal age.
